Body painting has been used since the beginning of time. Prehistoric men painted their bodies to convey different meanings. In all cultures the body has been painted with different objectives.

Also in the world of theatre, mimes and clowns painting on the face and body has allowed them to portray different characters.

Today body painting is also used in different cultural festivals, for example painting for Halloween.
